The GPU Daily · #113 · covering Tuesday 3 November
The physical layer of AI, every day. Here's what moved on Tuesday 3 November 2026.
A grid operator has refiled its plan to buy emergency power for data centres.
The regulator threw out most of the original proposal. The utilities then cut their near-term growth forecasts. The target could fall from sixty-eight hundred megawatts to six hundred and thirty. The plan was built to close a gap that its own inputs are now shrinking.
The gap has not closed.
An independent forecast has moved it to a different year.

PJM filed a revised reliability backstop proposal with FERC targeting a March 1 start, seven months later than planned, and the procurement could shrink from 6,800 MW to as little as 630 MW. PJM utilities including PPL Electric, FirstEnergy and AES Ohio cut near-term large-load forecasts by 6.5 GW, per a 28 October Jefferies note. Charles River Associates still projects a roughly 11.5 GW shortfall by 2030.
